Kogi State Unveils Plans for Youth Rehabilitation and Skill Training
Hajiya Safinat Ododo, the wife of the Governor of Kogi State, has announced plans to establish a rehabilitation center for drug addicts in the state.
Ms. Eunice Achimugu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, disclosed this during a media briefing in Lokoja on Wednesday as she mentioned that the governor’s wife also committed to constructing a skill acquisition center as this facility aims to train youths, including those undergoing rehabilitation for drug addiction, in various skills to enhance their societal contributions.
Meanwhile, these initiatives are part of the state government’s collaboration with the Kogi Command National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), to combat illicit drug abuse and trafficking within the state. Furthermore, Achimugu emphasized the importance of protecting youths from the destructive effects of illicit drugs, highlighting their role as future leaders who must be safeguarded.
In addition to these efforts, the state government is actively engaging with schools through sensitization programs aimed at educating students about the dangers associated with illicit drugs. The collaboration with NDLEA remains pivotal in the ongoing campaign to tackle drug abuse and rescue youths from its detrimental impact.
