The announcement was contained in a statement issued on February 25, 2026, in line with the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar. According to the calendar, the second term will end on Saturday, February 28, 2026, with the directive affecting both day and boarding schools.
Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools have been directed to pick up their wards by the early hours of Friday, February 27, 2026.
Under the schedule, boarding students are to resume on Sunday, March 22, 2026, while day students will return on Monday, March 23, 2026. The second term will then continue until Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The statement, signed by the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, warned that strict compliance with the approved holiday and resumption dates is mandatory, noting that any violation would be treated as a breach of government directive.
