Kano Court Rejects Deputy Governor’s Bid to Halt Impeachment
The Federal High Court in Kano has refused an ex parte application by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam to stop impeachment proceedings initiated against him over corruption allegations.
Through his lawyer, Umar Danbaito, Abdussalam sought an interim injunction to pause the process. Justice M. Shaibu ruled that the legal requirements for granting such an order were not met, as the deputy governor had been ordered to formally serve the State House of Assembly with court papers.
The Assembly began impeachment proceedings following claims that Abdussalam misappropriated funds, abused office, and breached public trust during his tenure as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs between 2023 and 2024. Allegations include diversion of N462 million in kickbacks and improper release of N440 million to a pharmaceutical company, as the court has adjourned the case until April 16, 2026, for further hearing, while Abdussalam is allowed to present his defense.
