IPMAN Adamawa/Taraba Chapter Continues Strike as Petrol Hits N2,000 Per Litre
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Adamawa/Taraba chapter, has vowed to prolong its ongoing strike amidst reports of petrol prices soaring to N2,000 per litre.
Speaking with newsmen in Yola on Tuesday, IPMAN Chairman Dahiru Buba affirmed that the strike was triggered by continuous harassment and unlawful seizure of petrol tankers by officials of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Buba criticized the Customs officers for abandoning their border duties and targeting legal businesses in urban and rural areas.
He highlighted the adverse effects of these actions, which include financial losses, artificial fuel scarcity, and skyrocketing prices.
“The strike will persist until the Nigeria Customs Service ceases their disruptive activities,” Buba asserted.
The situation escalated following a recent briefing by the Comptroller-General of the NCS, Adewale Adeniyi, in Yola on June 10.
Adeniyi had emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to combat smuggling, particularly of petroleum products, which he described as detrimental to Nigeria’s economy.
He called for unified support from Nigerians and security agencies to tackle the smuggling menace effectively.
