I’m Comfortable in PDP — Makinde Says After Meeting President Tinubu
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has played down speculations that he may defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that he remains firmly rooted in the opposition party despite recent political realignments. Makinde spoke after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, where he was asked to react to reports of PDP governors and leaders defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Responding, the governor said he had no intention of leaving the PDP, declaring that he was “comfortable” in the party. While acknowledging that Nigeria’s political landscape may require cooperation across party lines, Makinde stressed that such engagement does not translate to defection. He said national interest sometimes demands a bipartisan approach, noting that progress cannot be achieved if only one party dominates conversations on key issues. The governor added that effective governance requires collective input when the situation calls for it, even as he maintained his political base within the PDP and ruled out any immediate move to the APC.
