June 17, 2024

As Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Kabir on Sunday, Governors and community leaders emphasized the values of sacrifice, unity, and peace to foster national progress and harmony.

In Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, joined worshippers at the Eid praying ground to offer prayers for continued peace in Nigeria.

Governor AbdulRazaq reiterated the importance of unity and progress, echoing sentiments shared by Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, who had recently returned from Hajj and emphasized similar prayers for the nation’s well-being.

“The essence of today’s celebration is unity, peace, and progress,” Governor AbdulRazaq affirmed, highlighting the need for citizens to work collectively towards a better Nigeria. He also expressed gratitude for the present and extended condolences to those who have passed away.

Similarly, in Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike urged Muslims to use the occasion to promote tolerance and perseverance, virtues exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.

He underscored the significance of unity and mutual respect among Nigerians, calling for continued efforts towards national peace and progress.

Meanwhile, in Gombe State, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya emphasized the universal lessons of sacrifice and obedience symbolized by Eid-el-Kabir.

He stressed the importance of leadership embracing these values for the benefit of the people, emphasizing that such occasions should inspire all leaders, irrespective of faith, to prioritize sacrifice and service.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State echoed these sentiments, calling on Muslims to emulate the selflessness of Prophet Mohammed during the festivities.

He emphasized that Eid-el-Kabir should be a time of reflection and prayer for Nigeria to overcome its challenges through peaceful coexistence and mutual care.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State encouraged the Muslim community to demonstrate love, tolerance, and unity during the celebrations.

He expressed optimism that Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges could be surmounted through collective sacrifice and commitment to nation-building.

Lastly, in Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed urged reflection on moral and spiritual growth during Eid-el-Kabir.

He emphasized Islam’s teachings of submission to Allah’s will and peaceful coexistence among Muslims and adherents of other faiths as foundational to societal harmony.
