Governor Adeleke Urges Non-Politicisation of Security Services
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has issued a stern warning against the politicization of security services, emphasizing its detrimental impact on the democratic system in Nigeria.
During a meeting with Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Biodun Alabi at the Government House in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke stressed the importance of security agencies remaining impartial and focused on their duties.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, highlighted Adeleke’s concern over the sensitive nature of Osun State and the need for elected officials to prioritize peace and security for effective governance.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that state governors, as chief security officers, have a constitutional obligation to uphold law and order, and any disregard for lawful directives undermines the authority of state leadership.
He reiterated the importance of security agencies adhering strictly to their duties outlined in the constitution and avoiding any form of political interference.
“We must never politicize security. Our allegiance is to the constitution, which spells out the duties and responsibilities of all agencies and officials of the state,” Adeleke stated.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that law enforcement officers operate within legal boundaries. Adeleke vowed not to tolerate any security personnel engaging in illegal activities or obeying directives from non-state entities.
Governor Adeleke also praised the collaboration between the state government and security agencies, underscoring the critical role of the Nigerian Police Service in maintaining law and order.
In response, DIG Alabi expressed his visit to the state as part of a duty-tour directive from the Inspector General of Police. He emphasized the importance of gathering situational reports to enhance policing efforts nationwide.
Governor Adeleke’s call for the depoliticization of security services reflects a growing concern over the need for impartiality and professionalism in maintaining peace and security across Nigeria, particularly in states like Osun where stability is paramount for development and progress.
