Governor Adeleke Tasks Military on National Stability
The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called for peace and unity in Nigeria, urging the military and other security services to intensify their efforts in maintaining national stability.
Governor Adeleke made this appeal during a meeting with Major General Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, in Osogbo.
The two leaders engaged in hours of closed-door discussions focused on sustaining peace and stability in the region. Governor Adeleke highlighted the critical role of the military in ensuring the integrity of the democratic process.
Commending the Nigerian Army for its steadfast respect for democratic institutions, Governor Adeleke emphasized that loyalty is essential for national stability.
He noted that in times marked by anxiety and the need for protection of lives and property, collaboration between the political class and the security sector is crucial to providing adequate security for citizens.
Governor Adeleke assured the visiting military delegation that his administration has taken all necessary precautions to maintain peace in Osun State amidst planned nationwide demonstrations.
“Let me assure you that we have taken all necessary precautions. We just finished a stakeholders’ meeting and we are all resolved to sustain peace and tranquility in our state,” Governor Adeleke stated.
In his response, Major General Onubogu highlighted the significance of his visit during a critical period in Nigeria’s journey towards stability and unity.
He underscored the military’s loyalty to democratic principles and its vital role in maintaining peace during challenging times.
“The visit not only reaffirms the military’s loyalty to democratic principles but also highlights the essential role of the armed forces in maintaining peace during turbulent times,” said Major General Onubogu.
He praised Governor Adeleke’s dedication to ensuring Osun State remains peaceful and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
Major General Onubogu also emphasized the military’s role in upholding democratic principles and maintaining peace, particularly in handling protests and demonstrations.
