Gov AbdulRazaq Urges Kwara APC Excos to Ensure Fairness Ahead of Primaries
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has charged the newly inaugurated executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to provide a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the party’s forthcoming primaries.
The governor gave the charge in Ilorin shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of the state executive members of the party. The inauguration was conducted by Chief Titus Ashaolu, SAN.
AbdulRazaq congratulated the executives on their emergence through a consensus arrangement and described the APC as an inclusive platform accommodating diverse interests. He urged the party leaders to brace for mounting pressure in the coming months as various aspirants prepare to contest in the primaries.
He emphasized the need for party officials to avoid treating any aspirant as an opponent, noting that all contestants have contributions to make toward the development of the state. The governor also called on members of the executive to support the state chairman to ensure the success and unity of the party.
In his remarks, the state APC chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, assured members that the leadership would act fairly and equitably toward all party faithful.
Fagbemi highlighted the party’s current political dominance in the state, noting that the APC holds all local government chairmanship and councillorship positions, seats in the State House of Assembly and National Assembly, as well as the offices of the governor and deputy governor. He stated that the party’s next objective is to widen its margin of victory in future elections and consolidate its strength, adding that some former opponents have since joined the party.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Dr. Alibe Alkali, congratulated the newly inaugurated executives, stating that their election was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution.
