Glasgow 2026: Ashe, Fakorede Qualify for Men’s 100m Semi-Finals
Nigeria’s Favour Ashe and Nicholas Fakorede have advanced to the men’s 100 metres semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow following strong performances in their respective heats.
Ashe won his heat with an impressive time of 10.10 seconds, finishing ahead of Kenya’s Meshack Babu, who recorded 10.21 seconds, while Guyana’s Akeem Stewart placed third in 10.55 seconds.
Fakorede also secured a place in the semi-finals after finishing second in his heat with a time of 10.21 seconds. Lesotho’s Mojela Koneshe won the race in a national record time of 10.07 seconds, while Singapore’s Marc Brian Louis came third with a season’s best of 10.38 seconds.
Nigeria’s third representative, Kanyinsola Ajayi, gained automatic qualification to the semi-finals after receiving a bye.
The Nigerian trio will compete for places in the men’s 100m final, with Ashe drawn in the first semi-final, Ajayi in the second, and Fakorede in the third.
The qualification adds to Team Nigeria’s impressive performance at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, following Onome Didih and Edidiong Umoafia’s gold medal victories in weightlifting.
