FRSC Issues Safety Alert as Dust Haze Reduces Visibility in Gombe
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State has issued a safety warning to motorists as a thick seasonal dust haze blankets major highways, significantly reducing visibility.
The Gombe State Sector Command cautioned that the prevailing atmospheric conditions create hazardous driving situations, with impaired vision and limited reaction times increasing the risk of road traffic crashes.
In a statement signed by Sector Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Janet Kassa, the FRSC emphasized that reckless driving will not be tolerated, especially during periods of poor visibility.
Gombe State Sector Commander Samson Kaura described the dust haze as a serious road safety threat, urging drivers to avoid speeding under such conditions. “Speeding at such a time becomes even more dangerous,” Kaura warned, advising motorists to slow down, adhere to speed limits, and practise defensive driving.
The Command instructed drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly prepared for the harsh weather, including checking that headlights, tail lights, and brake lights are functional and switched on even during daylight. Drivers were also advised to increase following distances, maintain clean windscreens, and avoid risky manoeuvres such as overtaking improperly or driving while distracted.
The FRSC appealed to the public to prioritise safety and comply with traffic regulations until normal visibility is restored across the state.
