Former Super Eagles Winger, Oladimeji Lawal Urges Osimhen to Apologize to Finidi George for Disrespectful Remarks
Former Nigerian international footballer Oladimeji Lawal has called on Victor Osimhen, the reigning African Footballer of the Year, to apologize to Finidi George following Osimhen’s controversial remarks about the former Super Eagles coach.
The incident unfolded on social media just before Finidi George announced his resignation as head coach of the Super Eagles. Osimhen, addressing rumours about an alleged faked injury, expressed his loss of respect for Finidi George during an Instagram Live session.
Lawal, in a statement posted on his Facebook account, criticized Osimhen’s comments, describing them as disrespectful towards a Super Eagles legend.
He expressed disappointment over Osimhen’s outburst, stating, “You sounded highly disrespectful. It’s so unfortunate because we are seeing you as a perfect role model for this new generation.”
Acknowledging Osimhen’s achievements and contribution to Nigerian football, Lawal emphasized the need for respect towards senior figures in the football community.
He pointed out that while emotions can run high, caution and respect should always prevail.
“I love you and your achievements from a difficult background, the energy you used in playing is enough admiration,” Lawal added, urging Osimhen to reconsider his approach. “Personally, I joined Nigerians to support you for African best but right now, you fall my hands with your unwarranted outburst.”
Lawal concluded by advising Osimhen to reach out to Finidi George personally and apologize for his comments. He emphasized the importance of reconciling and maintaining unity within the Nigerian football community.
