Flying Eagles Replace Injured Freedom Ahead of U-20 World Cup

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have made a late change to their squad for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup after defender Marvelous Freedom was ruled out with a knee injury.
Freedom sustained the setback during training earlier in the week and missed the team’s friendly match against Australia on Tuesday night.
Head coach Aliyu Zubairu has since drafted in Haruna Aliyu of Wikki Tourists as a replacement. The defender is expected to join the squad in Chile on Friday morning.
The Flying Eagles will move to Talca City, venue of their group matches, on Thursday. The seven-time African champions have been in Chile for two weeks, putting final touches to their preparations. Nigeria will compete in Group F alongside Norway, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia, with their opening match against Norway scheduled for Monday.
