First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Distributes Food to Vulnerable Groups in Lagos Under Renewed Hope Initiative

Lagos State – Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered persons living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in Lagos with essential food supplies through the ongoing Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) food outreach. She also announced plans for a support project targeting the elderly nationwide.
Represented at the event by Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, the First Lady said the initiative, launched in March 2024, aims to ease the burden on the most vulnerable by providing food items to their families. The scheme rotates monthly between two states, and so far, 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory have benefited, with Bayelsa and Sokoto next in line.
Mrs. Tinubu also highlighted other RHI programs focused on women and youth empowerment, including the SDG/RHI Women Empowerment Programme in the South-West, which provides business tools, and the RHI/Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Economic Empowerment Programme, which will give N50,000 each to 500 women per state. The initiative is supported by a N1 billion fund from the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
Additionally, the flagship program ‘Flow with Confidence’ will provide a year’s supply of sanitary pads to 370,000 schoolgirls nationwide to support uninterrupted school attendance.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commended the initiative, noting its alignment with his administration’s THEMES+ agenda focused on social inclusion, health, and grassroots economic empowerment. The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, receiving the items on behalf of beneficiaries, described the outreach as timely and impactful for the communities.
