FIFA accepts NFF principal officers’ resignations, begins talks on football reforms

September 2, 2026

World football governing body FIFA has formally accepted the resignations of the principal officers of the Nigeria Football Federation and agreed to continue discussions with Nigerian football authorities on comprehensive reforms of the sport. The decision followed a meeting on Tuesday at the FIFA House in Zurich, Switzerland, involving FIFA, the Confederation of African Football, the National Sports Commission and the NFF administration. The parties agreed to develop a roadmap for the short, medium and long-term restructuring and administration of Nigerian football, with NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director-General Bukola Olopade leading the Nigerian delegation. Former NFF President and ex-FIFA Council member Amaju Pinnick was also present at the meeting alongside other Nigerian football stakeholders.
