FG tasks BUA on factory completion in Kwara to boost sugar production
The Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, has directed BUA Foods to urgently complete its sugar factory in Lafiagi, Kwara State. This instruction came during an inspection of sugar projects across Nigeria.
Enoh explained that the directive aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goal of achieving self-sufficiency in sugar production. He noted that the infrastructure, investment, and progress at the project demonstrate a strong commitment to the backward integration programme.
The minister highlighted that he, alongside the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, Kamar Bakrin, is tasked with ensuring operators move swiftly from planning to full production. He stressed the need to expand sugarcane cultivation to match factory capacity and achieve full operational readiness.
Enoh also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining sustained engagement with investors, traditional institutions, and host communities.
