FG Pledges to Leverage Traditional Institutions for Peace-Building

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has reaffirmed that the Federal Government will continue to explore traditional institutions as instruments for peace-building and national development.
Akume gave the assurance on Saturday at the annual Igede Agba Festival in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State. The festival, which dates back to 1957, is a cultural thanksgiving for a successful yam harvest and remains a central aspect of agricultural life among the Igede people, the third largest ethnic group in the state.
The SGF commended the Igede traditional council for preserving its heritage and promoting unity through the festival. He stressed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to ensuring rapid development across all regions of the country.
Akume highlighted recent interventions in Benue State, including federal appointments secured by indigenes and the award of the Oju–Ogoja road construction project. He noted that such initiatives demonstrate the inclusiveness of the Tinubu administration under its Renewed Hope agenda.
The Adiharu of Igede, Oga Ero (rtd. CP), also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the appointments and infrastructure projects, describing them as critical to the community’s growth.
