FG offers 40 tertiary institutions N2bn each

November 4, 2026

The Federal Government has announced plans to provide N2 billion each to 40 tertiary institutions to establish commercial farms aimed at boosting food production, creating jobs and generating revenue. The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during a meeting with heads of the selected institutions and the Bank of Agriculture, explaining that each institution would provide about 1,000 hectares of land under the Renewed Hope Tertiary Agricultural and Entrepreneurship Programme.

He added that the initiative would extend to food processing and agro-allied businesses, while providing students with practical agricultural experience and entrepreneurial opportunities. Futhermore, Alausa said the government would support participating institutions with access to 10 subsidised tractors each to improve agricultural production.
