FG Denies Approval of ‘Living History’ Textbook for Schools

February 3, 2026

The Federal Ministry of Education has denied claims that a History textbook titled Living History has been approved for use in Nigerian schools, describing such reports as misleading.

The ministry clarified that the book was never submitted to the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), the body responsible for reviewing and approving instructional materials, and does not appear on the official list of approved History textbooks. It warned that using unapproved materials could undermine curriculum standards and affect learning outcomes, urging parents, teachers, school administrators, and the public to rely only on officially endorsed textbooks that align with the national curriculum and promote inclusivity, cultural diversity, and national values.
