FG Approves N4bn Take-off Grants for Tinubu Polytechnic, Epe University
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a total of N4 billion as take-off grants for two newly established higher institutions to support their early operations.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed that the government approved N2 billion each for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic and the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe.
Alausa announced the inauguration of key officials appointed to lead the institutions.
Among those inaugurated were Nosiru Onibon as the pioneer rector of the polytechnic in Abuja and Adeola Oshikoya as the vice-chancellor of the university in Epe.
Also inaugurated was Angela Ajala as the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education.
According to the minister, the creation of the institutions forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to expand access to higher education and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity in science, technology and innovation.
He said the appointees were selected based on their experience and achievements within Nigeria’s education sector.
Alausa explained that the take-off grants would help the institutions establish their basic administrative and academic structures as they begin operations.
He also noted that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to building a stronger education system capable of producing skilled manpower for national development.
The minister added that the institutions are expected to focus on areas such as technological innovation, renewable energy, climate change response and disaster risk management, among other research fields relevant to national growth.
