FF Backs Finidi George Amidst Super Eagles’ Struggles Claims Ikpeba
Amidst growing concerns over the performance of the Nigerian national football team, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee member, Victor Ikpeba, has affirmed the unwavering support of the soccer governing body for head coach Finidi George.
Finidi, who recently assumed the role of head coach, has faced criticism following the Super Eagles’ lackluster performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
In these matches, the Super Eagles managed a 1-1 draw against South Africa but suffered a 2-1 defeat against Benin Republic, leaving them in fifth place on the Group C table with three points from four games.
Despite calls from some quarters for Finidi’s dismissal, Ikpeba has emphasized that the NFF stands firmly behind the embattled coach.
“Nigerians asked for a local coach, and Finidi was identified as the best candidate to lead the Super Eagles at this time,” Ikpeba stated.
“The technical committee carefully selected Finidi in the interest of the country. He will continue to receive the full support of the NFF, notwithstanding the recent results posted by the Super Eagles.”
