Federal Government, Presidency Collaborate to Prioritise Women’s Health

February 11, 2026

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health (OSSAP-WH), has begun coordinating interventions to tackle challenges affecting women in Nigeria.

Dr Adanna Steinacker, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, disclosed this during a meeting with women leaders, representatives of women’s groups, and NGOs in Abuja. The meeting, convened by the Ministry of Health and facilitated by OSSAP-WH, aims to ensure women’s health is a key focus in national development.

Launched by President Bola Tinubu on September 11, 2025, OSSAP-WH operates under the mandate RenewHER—standing for Health, Equity, and Reform. RenewHER coordinates policies on women’s health in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Women’s Affairs.

Steinacker explained that RenewHER is structured around three main pillars:

  1. Digital media and advocacy hub: Aims to close the knowledge gap on women’s health, improving access to government services, and disseminating accurate, evidence-based health information.

  2. Geopolitically anchored campaigns: Implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health, targeting priority health issues across different regions.

  3. Coalitions, symposia, and summits: To build collaborative networks advancing women’s health nationwide.

Dr Steinacker emphasised that women’s health is being approached as a shared national agenda, breaking down institutional silos to foster coordinated action.

Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, pledged her office’s support for initiatives advancing women’s health and wellbeing across Nigeria.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to prioritising women’s health, promoting health literacy, and ensuring equitable access to services for women and girls nationwide.
