Federal Government Declares Free Education in All Federal Technical Colleges

The Federal Government has declared technical education completely free in all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) across the country, covering tuition and a wide range of associated costs.
Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the policy in Abuja, stressing that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to guarantee equal access to quality education.
According to the minister, the government will bear the full financial burden for tuition, boarding, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, prospectuses, ID cards, stationery, clubs and societies, medical services, vocational charges, utilities, security, website/e-result, Skool Media, extra lessons, and insurance.
“No principal or administrator is permitted to demand unauthorised payments from parents or guardians,” Alausa warned, directing that circulars be sent to all schools and parents.
He urged parents to report illegal charges directly to the Ministry through the hotlines 0803 657 6733, 0803 637 3796, or by email at tse@education.gov.ng.
While clarifying that boarding students will still provide personal items, the minister emphasised that the government’s goal is to equip young Nigerians with employable skills to drive human capital development.
“By investing in technical and vocational education today, we are building a stronger, self-reliant Nigeria,” Alausa said, assuring that monitoring mechanisms are in place to check infractions.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the free education policy and ensuring FTCs produce skilled graduates capable of driving national transformation.
