Federal Government Cancels Independence Day Parade, Other Programmes to Hold

The Federal Government has announced that there will be no anniversary parade to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration in Abuja on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Senator George Akume, the government said other scheduled activities for the anniversary would still take place as planned.
Director of Information and Public Relations in the OSGF, Segun Imohiosen, explained that the cancellation of the parade does not reduce the importance of the milestone. He noted that the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th independence with dignity and enthusiasm.
Imohiosen added that while the decision may cause some inconvenience, the anniversary programmes would continue to reflect national pride and unity. He expressed appreciation for the understanding and support of Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and guests.
He also urged citizens to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform initiatives, describing them as vital to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
