The Federal Government has approved the construction of a ₦1 trillion Metropolitan Rail Service in Kano State, aimed at transforming urban transportation, boosting economic activities, and easing traffic congestion. Governor Abba Yusuf disclosed this on Thursday, describing the project as a major step towards improving mobility and modernising infrastructure in the state.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Sanusi Bature, Yusuf said the rail service will provide an efficient and affordable mass transit system linking key districts across Kano. He added that the project is expected to drive trade and investment, improve residents’ quality of life, and strengthen Kano’s position as a major transportation hub in northern Nigeria. The governor noted that the state government will work closely with relevant federal agencies to ensure smooth implementation and transparency, while commending the Federal Government for the initiative and pledging full cooperation.
