Federal Government Allocates N260 Billion to Revitalize Primary Health Care Centers Nationwide
The Nigerian government has announced a substantial allocation of N260 billion for the revitalization of Primary Health Care (PHC) centers across the country.
This initiative was disclosed by Muhammad Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, during a sectoral ministerial press briefing held in Abuja to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s first anniversary in office.
Pate outlined plans to expand the number of Primary Health Care centers from 8,300 to 17,000 through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
The primary aim is to ensure these centers are fully functional and capable of delivering essential health services to communities nationwide.
During the briefing, Minister Pate emphasized the significance of securing adequate resources for the revitalization project. He stated, “I’m very pleased to say that there is N260 billion sitting right now at the states’ level. All the states of the federation have been mobilized for the revitalization of the PHCs.” These funds are sourced from the International Development Association and the Basic Health Care Provision Fund.
To ensure transparent and accountable utilization of these resources, Minister Pate highlighted the government’s commitment to providing guidelines for implementation and monitoring the equipment of medical facilities.
Furthermore, the government plans to embark on the training of 120,000 frontline health workers over the next three years. This initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of health workers serving rural populations, equipping them with necessary skills and knowledge.
President Tinubu’s administration is resolute in its efforts to bolster the healthcare sector. Minister Pate affirmed, “President Tinubu is determined to unlock the healthcare value chain and to domesticate production capabilities to produce what Nigerians need.”
This commitment led to the approval of the presidential initiative to unlock the healthcare value chain in October, marking significant progress in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
