FCTA Workers Paid January Salary, One-Month Wage Award — Wike’s Aide Criticises NLC Protest Plan
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has paid its workers their January salaries and one month of the outstanding wage award, according to Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Olayinka said the January salary was paid last Friday, alongside one month out of the five months’ arrears owed as wage award. He added that two months of the arrears have now been settled, with the remaining three months scheduled to be paid together with salaries for February, March, and April.
He made the disclosure while faulting the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over its plan to mobilise workers across other sectors for a protest on Tuesday, describing the move as unnecessary. He argues that while several states have either stopped paying the wage award or failed to implement it entirely, the NLC has not taken similar action against them. He questioned the motive behind the planned protest, insisting that the FCT Administration has demonstrated commitment to workers’ welfare through ongoing payments.
