FCCPC Urges Border Reopening for Food Imports Amid Hunger Concerns
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has urged the federal government to reopen Nigeria’s borders to allow legal importation of food items, aiming to alleviate hunger among Nigerians.
At an advocacy meeting held at the Emir’s palace in Bauchi with traditional rulers and stakeholders, Acting Executive Chairman Adamu Abdullahi emphasized the FCCPC’s ongoing efforts in raising awareness about price gouging and unfair trade practices in Nigerian markets. He also highlighted the commission’s goal to educate stakeholders on consumer rights, identify counterfeit products, and provide proper channels for lodging complaints.
Abdullahi argued that reopening the borders would facilitate the importation of food, potentially stabilizing market prices. He reaffirmed the FCCPC’s commitment to promoting fair competition, protecting consumers, and maintaining a regulated marketplace, encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and report any violations.
Furthermore, the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, expressed concern about the escalating prices of essential goods, particularly food items, which he observed are causing significant hardship for citizens.
