February 2, 2026

Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, was enveloped in mourning at the weekend following the death and burial of renowned Islamic scholar and jurist, Professor Lanre Yusuf Badmas. The news of his death was announced on Friday by the Personal Assistant to the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Abdulraheem Muritala.

His remains were later flown to Ilorin, where he was buried according to Islamic rites where dignitaries from within and outside Kwara State attended the burial, including prominent Islamic scholars, academics, traditional title holders, and public officials. The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, described the late professor as a world-class scholar whose influence extended far beyond Ilorin whose legacy would endure through the lives he touched and the institutions he helped build.
