EU Sanctions Sudanese Military Leaders Over Atrocities
The Council of the European Union on Thursday imposed sanctions on leaders of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) over human rights violations and escalating violence in Sudan. The measures target 18 individuals, including RSF Major Hamdan Dagalo Musa, RSF Brigadier Generals, SAF commanders, and affiliates of the Islamist militia Baraa bin Malik Battalion, subjecting them to asset freezes and travel bans across EU member states. The EU said the sanctioned actors are linked to entities threatening peace and stability, blaming them for the ongoing conflict that has killed thousands, worsened humanitarian conditions, and posed a serious threat to regional security, while calling for accountability, justice, and adherence to international law
