Emergency Rule Ends as Ibas Hands Over to Governor Fubara in Rivers State

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd) has formally handed over leadership to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, marking the end of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State. In a statewide broadcast, Ibas declared that the mandate given by President Bola Tinubu had been fulfilled, citing the restoration of law and order, the conduct of local government elections, and the reconstitution of statutory bodies as key achievements.
The Rivers State House of Assembly also resumed sitting Thursday under Speaker Martins Amaewhule at a temporary chamber in Port Harcourt. Ibas warned against a relapse into political crisis and urged citizens to support Governor Fubara, emphasizing that lasting democracy depends on dialogue, institutional strength, and responsible leadership.
