ECOWAS VP Emphasizes Unity Amid Member State Exits
Damtien Tchintchibidja, the Vice President of the Economic Community of West African States Commission, has urged for unity and decisive action following the recent withdrawals of three member states: Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali.
Speaking at the 35th meeting of the Committee on Administration and Finance in Abuja on Friday, she stressed the critical need to maintain regional cohesion for sustained development and integration while highlighting the challenging context marked by significant regional and global uncertainties.
Tchintchibidja highlighted the difficult context of the meeting, marked by significant regional and global uncertainties.
“I would like to remind you that the meeting of this day is held in a challenging context, characterised by uncertainties on a regional and global level.
“The announced withdrawal of our three member states appeals to us all in more than one way.
“We therefore must put everything in place to safeguard our unity, our secular ties, our spirit of fraternity and solidarity, as a result of an inclusive development,” she emphasised
The Vice President cautioned that these withdrawals could potentially disrupt the region’s integration efforts and impede economic and social progress.
