D’Tigress Drawn Against France, Germany, Colombia, Others in 2026 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

African champions, Nigeria’s D’Tigress, have been drawn to face France, Germany, Colombia, the Philippines, and Korea in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournament.
The draw, conducted on Tuesday, October 7, at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland, marks the final stage of qualification for the global championship set to take place in Berlin, Germany.
Scheduled for March 11–17, 2026, the qualifiers will be hosted across four cities — Wuhan (China), Lyon-Villeurbanne (France), San Juan (Puerto Rico), and Istanbul (Türkiye). D’Tigress will compete in the Lyon-Villeurbanne group alongside their European, Asian, and South American opponents.
The Nigerian side, who currently sit eighth in the FIBA world rankings, will be aiming to secure their third appearance at the Women’s Basketball World Cup. They previously featured in the 2006 edition, exiting at the group stage, and reached the quarter-finals in 2018 — a historic achievement for African basketball.
D’Tigress also hold the record as the first women’s team to win five consecutive AfroBasket titles, bringing their total to seven continental championships — second only to Senegal’s 11 titles.
The full results of the qualifying draw are as follows:
Wuhan, China: Mali, South Sudan, Brazil, Belgium, Czechia, China
Lyon-Villeurbanne, France: Colombia, Philippines, Germany, Korea, France, Nigeria
San Juan, Puerto Rico: New Zealand, Puerto Rico, USA, Senegal, Italy, Spain
Istanbul, Türkiye: Hungary, Türkiye, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Japan
The qualifiers will determine the 16 teams that will compete for the ultimate prize at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin.
