D’Tigress Brace for American Challenge in Olympics Quarterfinal
Nigeria’s D’Tigress are set to face the United States in the quarter-finals of the women’s basketball event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This marks a historic achievement for the Nigerian team as they secured the country’s first-ever berth in the last eight of the Olympic basketball tournament.
The landmark qualification came after D’Tigress’ impressive 79-70 victory over Canada in their final group game on Sunday. The win brought their total to five classification points, initially placing them at the top of Group B.
However, their standing shifted when Australia defeated France 79-72 in another group match, pushing Nigeria to third place in the group rankings. Now, D’Tigress will face the formidable defending champions, USA, on August 7 at 9:30 pm.
This encounter will be the second Olympic face-off between the two teams. At the Tokyo Games, D’Tigress narrowly lost to the Americans by nine points in their opening group game and were also defeated by the USA in the 2024 Olympics qualifiers.
