Don Jazzy Reveals Strategy to Avoid Clash with Wizkid and Asake
Don Jazzy, the prominent music executive and CEO of Mavin Records, has revealed that he strategically schedules his artists’ releases to avoid clashing with major stars Wizkid and Asake.
In a recent podcast interview, Jazzy explained that releasing new music on the same day as these popular artists is a high-risk move.
Wizkid and Asake, known for their substantial influence in Nigeria’s music streaming landscape, are often dominant forces on Fridays, a traditional release day.
Don Jazzy noted, “We [Mavin] are moving from the traditional Friday release date to Wednesdays and Thursdays because there are no more Fridays [without another artist dropping a song]. If my artist is to drop a song or project on a Friday and Wizkid or Asake is also releasing that day, I will move our release date because you don’t want to just die a natural death.”
Mavin Records, home to stars like Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, and Lifesize Teddy, is adapting to the competitive music scene by shifting release dates to ensure their projects get the attention they deserve.
In other news, a recent incident on TVC’s Your View has sparked controversy after a caller criticized presenter Tope Mark-Odigie for her attire during a live broadcast.
Hauwa from Zamfara state called into the show, intending to discuss upcoming topics but instead used the opportunity to chastise Mark-Odigie for her “inappropriate dressing.”
The caller contrasted Tope’s attire with that of fellow presenters Morayo Afolabi-Brown and Nyma, who she complimented. Hauwa’s comments led to a heated exchange, with Morayo cutting off the call mid-sentence.
In response, Tope Mark-Odigie defended her fashion choices, asserting that she adheres to guidelines set by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and has not received any official complaints about her wardrobe. She emphasized her right to choose her attire as long as it complies with regulatory standards.
