Doctors reject six-month jail term, fine for delayed emergency care
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has rejected a proposed amendment to the National Health Act seeking a six-month jail term or a fine of up to 300,000 naira for healthcare workers over delays in emergency treatment. The association warned that it could embark on a nationwide strike if the National Assembly proceeds with the bill, arguing that doctors should not be punished for challenges arising from poor hospital infrastructure, inadequate funding and staff shortages.
