Delcy Rodriguez Sworn in as Venezuela’s Interim President
Venezuela’s Vice President and Oil Minister Delcy Rodriguez was formally sworn in on Monday as the country’s interim president, following a dramatic U.S. military operation that removed President Nicolas Maduro from power. Rodriguez, 56, a labor lawyer with strong ties to the ruling party and private sector, was sworn in by her brother Jorge, head of the National Assembly, alongside 283 lawmakers elected last May, most of whom represent the ruling party after much of the opposition boycotted the election. Meanwhile, 63-year-old Maduro appeared in a New York court on narco-terrorism charges and pleaded not guilty, while his wife, Cilia Flores, who is in U.S. custody, also pleaded not guilty.
