Death Toll from Gwoza Suicide Bombing Reaches 32; With 26 Victims Receiving Medical Care
Vice President Kashim Shattima has announced that the death toll from the Gwoza suicide bombing has risen to 32, with 26 victims still receiving medical treatment. Initially, 42 victims were hospitalized, but two later succumbed to their injuries.
During a visit to the victims at General Hospital in Maiduguri on Monday, the Vice President expressed shock on behalf of the Federal Government over the Saturday incident and promised to take measures to prevent future occurrences.
He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed him to visit the victims and ensure that security actions are taken to protect Nigerian lives and properties.
“Out of the 42 hospitalized victims, 14 have been discharged, while the remaining 26 are still receiving treatment,” Shattima said.
The Vice President assured that the Federal Government and the Borno State government would support the victims and cover their medical expenses.
His visit aimed to show solidarity with the victims and reassure them of the government’s support.
The incident, which took place on Saturday, involved multiple suicide bombings in Gwoza, resulting in significant loss of life and injuries.
The attacks have heightened concerns over security in the region and the ongoing threat posed by terrorist activities.
