Dangote Refinery Suspends Self-Collection of Petroleum Products

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has suspended self-collection gantry sales of petroleum products at its facility with effect from September 18, 2025.
The company said the decision was part of measures to encourage wider adoption of its free delivery scheme, which provides direct shipments of products to retail outlets, and to restrict sales to only registered marketers.
Under the new arrangement, all payments linked to active permits for self-collection have also been suspended, with the refinery confirming that any payments made after the effective date would not be processed.
The management noted that the free delivery scheme remains operational for both existing and newly registered marketers, describing the suspension as an operational adjustment aimed at improving efficiency.
The move comes amid ongoing disputes between the refinery, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria. The refinery has defended its delivery policy as necessary to stabilise supply, while marketers and union groups have criticised the scheme as restrictive and costly.
The development is expected to impact independent marketers and retail station owners who have relied on direct self-collection from the refinery’s gantry but have yet to join the free delivery scheme.
The standoff between the refinery and marketers has further heightened concerns over fuel pricing, labour rights, and competition in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.
