Court Grants Bail to Abba Kyari After 27 Months in Detention, Offers Explanation
Former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, has been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja after spending 27 months behind bars.
The release follows a ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja granting Kyari a two-week bail period.
Justice Emeka Nwite, who presided over the case, stated that the bail duration would allow Kyari to attend personal matters, including the burial of his mother who passed away on May 5, 2024.
Kyari, a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, was detained following his arrest on February 14, 2022, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on allegations of involvement with an international drug cartel.
