Court Bars NLC, TUC from Planned FCT Protest

February 3, 2026

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Abuja, has restrained the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and three others from embarking on any industrial action or protest within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Justice Emmanuel Subilim issued the interim order on Monday while ruling on an ex parte application filed by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) as they alleged that despite being served with the court’s injunction, union leaders issued fresh directives urging workers to disregard the order and resume industrial action, culminating in plans for a mass protest in Abuja. The court adjourned the matter to February 10, 2026, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
