Court Acquits Abba Kyari of Asset Non-Declaration Charges

March 5, 2026

The Federal High Court in Abuja has discharged and acquitted suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari of a 23-count charge of alleged non-declaration of assets brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Justice James Omotosho ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence linking Kyari or his two brothers to several properties, including those in Fountain Estate, Kasana; Linda Choko Road, Asokoro; and Maiduguri, Borno State. The judge also noted that Kyari’s explanation that some properties were inherited from his late father was not disproved, and that the alleged conspiracy involving his brothers was unproven.

All counts against Kyari and his siblings were therefore dismissed, ending the NDLEA’s case.
