Commonwealth Games: Amusan Storms Into 100m Hurdles Final

GLASGOW — Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan produced a commanding performance on Thursday to qualify for the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The former world champion won the opening semifinal in a time of 12.19 seconds, underlining her status as one of the favourites for gold.

Amusan finished well clear of South Africa’s Marione Fourie, who clocked 12.50 seconds, and Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill, who came third in 12.69 seconds. Although her time was the fastest ever recorded in the event at the Commonwealth Games, it will not be ratified as a Games record. The race was run with a tailwind of +3.8m/s, above the legal limit of +2.0m/s required for record purposes. Amusan looked in complete control throughout, powering away from the field to secure automatic qualification for the final scheduled later on Thursday.

A win in the final would add the Commonwealth Games women’s 100m hurdles title to Amusan’s growing list of international honours and further cement her reputation as one of the world’s top sprint hurdlers. Her qualification also continues Team Nigeria’s strong showing in athletics at the Glasgow Games, as the country seeks to build on its medal tally in the final stages of the competition.
