California governor commutes sentences for state’s 548 death row inmates
California Governor Gavin Newsom has commuted the death sentences of all 548 inmates on death row in the state to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Newsom said the decision was based on his belief that state-sanctioned executions are incompatible with California’s values and undermine the justice system.
