CAF Sanctions Algeria Over AFCON Quarter-Final Incidents Against Nigeria
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed sporting and financial sanctions on Algeria following incidents that occurred during and after their quarter-final clash with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. In a ruling by its disciplinary board, CAF cited misconduct by Algerian players, officials and supporters, resulting in suspensions for goalkeeper Luca Zidane and defender Rafik Belghali. Zidane received a two-match suspension to be served during the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, while Belghali was handed a four-match ban, with two matches suspended subject to good behaviour. CAF also fined the Algerian Football Federation $100,000 for the improper conduct.
