CAF Hails Gianni Infantino’s 10-Year Leadership as FIFA President
The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has congratulated Gianni Infantino on a decade of leadership at the helm of FIFA, highlighting his contributions to the global development of football.
In a statement released Thursday on the CAF website, CAF President Patrice Motsepe praised Infantino for his “excellent leadership” over the past ten years and described him as “a loyal and trustworthy friend and partner” to African football. Motsepe also wished Infantino good health and all the best in future endeavours.
Infantino first took charge of FIFA in February 2016, succeeding Sepp Blatter amid widespread scandal within the organisation. He was re-elected in June 2019 by acclamation for a second term at the FIFA Congress in Paris, running unopposed for a four-year term.
CAF’s statement noted that Infantino’s leadership has had a global impact, benefiting football development beyond any single confederation or region. Under his tenure, FIFA has sought to rebuild its image and implement reforms following previous controversies.
The African football body’s commendation reflects the continent’s recognition of Infantino’s role in shaping international football over the last decade.
