Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter Shine at 2025 MTV VMAs

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards took place on Sunday, September 7, at the UBS Arena in New York, with some of the world’s biggest music stars walking away with the iconic Moon Person trophy. The event was hosted by rap legend LL Cool J.
Ariana Grande emerged as one of the night’s biggest winners, claiming Video of the Year and Best Pop for her hit “Brighter Days Ahead.” Lady Gaga, who led the pack with 12 nominations, took home Artist of the Year and also shared the Best Collaboration prize with Bruno Mars for “Die With A Smile.”
Sabrina Carpenter, another major winner of the night, secured Best Album for “Short n’ Sweet” and the Best Pop Artist award. ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’s chart-topping duet “APT.” earned Song of the Year, while K-pop star LISA, featuring Doja Cat and RAYE, won Best K-pop with “Born Again.”
The ceremony also celebrated global talent. Tyla’s “PUSH 2 START” won Best Afrobeats, Shakira claimed Best Latin with “Soltera,” and Megan Moroney earned Best Country for “Am I Okay?” Coldplay took home Best Rock for “ALL MY LOVE,” while Doechii’s “Anxiety” won Best Hip-Hop.
Special honors went to Mariah Carey, who received both the Best R&B award for “Type Dangerous” and the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Ricky Martin was celebrated with the Latin Icon Award, and hip-hop pioneer Busta Rhymes accepted the Rock the Bells Visionary Award.
Other notable winners included Tate McRae for Song of the Summer (“Just Keep Watching”), Sombr for Best Alternative (“Back to Friends”), Alex Warren as Best New Artist, Katseye for Push Performance of the Year, and Blackpink as Best Group. The night highlighted both fresh voices and legendary performers, cementing the VMAs as one of the most diverse celebrations of global music.
