APC Responds to Atiku, PDP Criticisms of President Tinubu’s Economic Policies
In the wake of Democracy Day, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has pushed back against criticisms leveled by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against President Bola Tinubu’s economic strategies.
In statements issued separately on Tuesday to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day, Atiku and the PDP lambasted Tinubu for the current economic challenges gripping the nation, citing hyperinflation and difficulties in affording basic necessities.
Atiku, in particular, urged President Tinubu to reconsider his policies, emphasizing the hardships faced by ordinary citizens.
However, the APC defended Tinubu’s administration, asserting that measures such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the adjustment of the exchange rate were essential to prevent the country from collapsing.
In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH, the APC National Director, Bala Ibrahim, expressed disappointment with Atiku and the PDP, accusing them of distorting facts.
Ibrahim emphasized the ideological similarities between Tinubu and the late Chief MKO Abiola, suggesting that Tinubu’s government is striving to realize Abiola’s vision for Nigeria.
He stated, “Atiku is being economical with the truth… the government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu can be likened to the ambition of Chief MKO Abiola. This is a government that has come to actualize the ambition of Abiola.”
Ibrahim accused Atiku and the PDP of pursuing agendas contrary to Abiola’s vision, labeling them as “anti-people.” He defended Tinubu’s policies, acknowledging the short-term pain they may cause but asserting that they are necessary for long-term reform.
While conceding that reforms take time and may induce temporary hardships, Ibrahim expressed confidence that Tinubu’s leadership would ultimately lead to positive outcomes for Nigeria.
