Amusan Dominates National Trials with Record-Breaking Performance
Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the Women’s 100m hurdles, secured her fourth Nigerian title at the ongoing Athletics Federation of Nigeria’s National Trials in Benin-City, Edo State, on Monday. She clocked 12.78s, outpacing Adaobi Tabugbo who finished second with 13.33s.
Meanwhile, the trails which is concluding on Tuesday, serves as the selection platform for athletes heading to the Paris Olympics, the Africa Championships in Cameroon later this month, and the World U-20 Championship in Lima, Peru, from August 27 to 31. Despite already qualifying for the Olympics, Amusan defended her title in Benin-City with a flawless performance.
Furthermore, having amassed an impressive record with victories in the Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, African Championships, and African Games, Amusan acknowledges the challenges but expresses no pressure to secure gold in Paris.
“No pressure, just having fun. One day at a time, one race at a time, no pressure on. When it’s time for Paris, we’ll definitely show up in Paris,” Amusan said in May during the Atlanta City Games.
