AFCON 2025: Uganda will be difficult to beat – Lorenzen warns Super Eagles, others
Uganda striker Melvyn Lorenzen has warned Nigeria’s Super Eagles and other Group C opponents that the Cranes will not be easy to face at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Uganda are drawn alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania. They will open their campaign against Tunisia on December 23, before facing Tanzania and Nigeria in their final group match on December 30 at the Fez Sports Complex.
Speaking via his official X account, Lorenzen said Uganda have consistently shown resilience, even when playing against stronger nations. He noted that the team have always represented themselves well and that no opponent would find it comfortable playing against Uganda, adding that the upcoming tournament is another opportunity to prove their quality.
The 2025 AFCON will be Uganda’s eighth appearance at the tournament and their first since 2019. Their best performance came in 1978 when they reached the final but lost to Ghana.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles, considered one of the favourites for the title, are expected to face a tough challenge in the group stage.
